Community Security Gets Boost as Ibeju-Lekki LG Trains CSIN Recruits

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has commenced the orientation of prospective personnel for its Community Security and Intelligence Network (CSIN) as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security and enhance the protection of lives and property across the council area.

Epe Insights reports that the orientation exercise forms part of the recruitment process initiated by the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, to expand community-based intelligence gathering and improve security surveillance within Ibeju-Lekki.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, urged the prospective recruits to uphold discipline, integrity and professionalism throughout their service.

He said the effectiveness of the Community Security and Intelligence Network would depend on the commitment of its personnel to vigilance, honesty and timely reporting of suspicious activities.

According to Adebanjo, growing security challenges require proactive measures and stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies to prevent crime before it occurs.

He encouraged the recruits to remain observant within their communities and reminded them that security is a collective responsibility requiring active participation from everyone.

Quoting the popular security slogan, he urged the recruits to embrace the principle of “If you see something, say something,” stressing that credible and timely information remains a critical tool in crime prevention.

The secretary also reminded the applicants that many of them were nominated by respected traditional rulers and community leaders who believed in their character and ability to serve.

He advised them to protect that trust by demonstrating exemplary conduct, dedication and loyalty while carrying out their responsibilities if eventually engaged.

Also speaking during the exercise, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Security, Mr. Adebanjo Shakiru, disclosed that all applicants would undergo comprehensive background checks before final selection.

He explained that the screening process would verify the integrity and suitability of every applicant, warning that anyone found with a criminal record would be disqualified and handed over to the appropriate security agencies.

The security adviser noted that the rigorous screening exercise is intended to ensure that only individuals of proven character are recruited into the Community Security and Intelligence Network.

The Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, also addressed the prospective recruits, highlighting the relationship between effective security and environmental management.

He urged future CSIN personnel to work closely with the Department of Environment, noting that clean, well-monitored communities contribute significantly to public safety and crime prevention.

Sofwan stressed that collaboration among departments of the local government would strengthen service delivery and enhance efforts to build safer and healthier communities.

Stakeholders at the orientation described the initiative as a proactive step toward strengthening grassroots security through intelligence gathering, community participation and strategic collaboration.

The recruitment exercise reflects the commitment of the Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa-led administration to developing sustainable security structures capable of responding to emerging challenges across Ibeju-Lekki.

Residents expressed optimism that the Community Security and Intelligence Network would complement the work of conventional security agencies while improving public confidence in community policing initiatives.

As Ibeju-Lekki continues to witness rapid economic and population growth, the local government says it will continue investing in initiatives that enhance security, strengthen community resilience and create a peaceful environment for residents, businesses and investors.
