Federal, Lagos Governments Launches Adopt-a-School Feeding Programme

The Federal Government and Lagos State Government have strengthened efforts to improve child nutrition and learning with the launch of the Adopt-a-School: Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS initiative under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

Epe Insights reports that the programme is designed to provide nutritious breakfast snacks and beverages to pupils before the start of school each day, with the aim of improving concentration, boosting school attendance and enhancing academic performance.

National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, said the initiative focuses on addressing hunger among schoolchildren while creating a more conducive learning environment.

She explained that pupils who receive nutritious meals before lessons are better positioned to remain attentive in class, improve their learning outcomes and participate more actively in academic activities.

Princess Adebowale noted that the programme adopts a public-private partnership model that encourages businesses, philanthropists and development organisations to support public schools through the Adopt-a-School initiative.

According to her, private sector participation will help sustain the programme and expand its reach to more schools and pupils across the country.

Executive Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, applauded the Federal Government and Lagos State Government for introducing the initiative.

He described the programme as a strategic investment in the future of Nigerian children and urged corporate organisations, faith-based groups and other stakeholders to adopt schools within their communities as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Folawiyo stressed that partnerships between government and the private sector remain critical to improving access to quality education and supporting the wellbeing of schoolchildren.

The event featured the distribution of breakfast packs to pupils, ensuring they received nutritious meals before the commencement of classroom activities.

Pupils also received school bags, tablets, snack boxes, water bottles, flasks, notebooks and other educational materials to support their learning and personal development.

Parents, teachers and education stakeholders commended the initiative, describing it as a practical intervention that would improve attendance, encourage learning and ease the burden on many families.

The launch highlighted the commitment of government and its partners to strengthening basic education through programmes that combine nutrition, learning support and community collaboration.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that sustained implementation of the initiative would contribute to healthier pupils, improved classroom performance and stronger educational outcomes across public primary schools.
