PBAT FEEDS Mobilises School Feeding Programme Seeks to Improve Attendance, Learning

Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government has officially launched the Adopt-a-School: Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS initiative to improve nutrition, school attendance and academic performance among primary school pupils across Nigeria.

Epe Insights reports that the programme is a public-private partnership between the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

The official launch was held at Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), bringing together government officials, local government chairmen, development partners, corporate organisations and education stakeholders.

The initiative is designed to provide nutritious breakfast meals to pupils before classes begin, helping children stay focused while improving classroom participation and learning outcomes.

The programme also introduces the Adopt-a-School model, encouraging private organisations, philanthropists and development partners to support public schools through sustainable investments in child nutrition.

Stakeholders described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at tackling classroom hunger while promoting access to quality basic education.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Government and development partners.

She said Lagos State remains dedicated to supporting programmes that improve the welfare of schoolchildren through innovative and sustainable partnerships.

According to her, effective collaboration between government and the private sector is essential to expanding access to nutritious meals and improving educational outcomes for pupils.

Participants at the launch noted that proper nutrition plays a critical role in enhancing children’s cognitive development, concentration and academic performance.

The initiative also seeks to improve school enrolment and reduce absenteeism by ensuring that pupils begin each school day with healthy and nutritious meals.

Corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations and well-meaning Nigerians were encouraged to adopt schools within their communities as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Education stakeholders welcomed the programme, describing it as a practical approach to strengthening human capital development and improving the quality of basic education nationwide.

They expressed optimism that broader private sector participation would enhance the sustainability of the initiative and extend its benefits to more public primary schools.

The launch reflects the Federal Government’s continued efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to invest in education, child welfare and policies that improve learning opportunities for young Nigerians.

With stronger partnerships between government and the private sector, the PBAT FEEDS initiative is expected to contribute significantly to healthier pupils, improved academic achievement and a more inclusive education system across the country.
