Hon. Olowa Charges CSIN Recruits on Vigilance, Intelligence Gathering

The administration of the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has intensified efforts to enhance grassroots security with the commencement of the orientation and screening of prospective personnel for the Community Security and Intelligence Network (CSIN).

Epe Insights reports that the initiative forms part of the Olowa administration’s broader strategy to build a proactive community-based security architecture capable of strengthening intelligence gathering and improving the protection of lives and property across Ibeju-Lekki.

Representing the Executive Chairman at the orientation exercise, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, described the CSIN initiative as a critical component of the administration’s commitment to safer communities.

He urged the prospective recruits to demonstrate discipline, professionalism and integrity, stressing that community security depends largely on responsible individuals who are prepared to serve with dedication.

Adebanjo said the administration expects CSIN personnel to become trusted partners in crime prevention by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities promptly to relevant security agencies.

According to him, effective intelligence gathering begins at the grassroots, making the role of community security personnel indispensable in addressing emerging security challenges.

He reminded the recruits that many were nominated by traditional rulers and community leaders because of their credibility and good character, urging them to uphold the confidence reposed in them.

The Secretary to the Local Government also encouraged the recruits to embrace the principle of community policing by working closely with residents to promote peace and security throughout the local government.

Speaking during the exercise, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Security, Mr. Adebanjo Shakiru, disclosed that every applicant would undergo a comprehensive background verification process before final selection.

He explained that the screening exercise would ensure that only qualified and law-abiding individuals are admitted into the Community Security and Intelligence Network.

Shakiru warned that applicants found with criminal records or questionable backgrounds would be disqualified and referred to the appropriate security agencies for necessary action.

Also addressing the recruits, the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, highlighted the importance of collaboration between CSIN personnel and the Department of Environment.

He noted that environmental monitoring and community security complement each other in preventing crime and creating healthier, safer neighbourhoods.

Sofwan urged the prospective personnel to support environmental enforcement efforts while carrying out their security responsibilities within their respective communities.

The orientation exercise underscores the Olowa administration’s determination to strengthen grassroots security through intelligence-led policing, strategic partnerships and active community participation.

Residents have welcomed the CSIN initiative, expressing confidence that the programme will improve security surveillance, enhance public safety and complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.

As Ibeju-Lekki continues to witness rapid growth and development, the administration of Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa says it will continue investing in innovative security initiatives that promote peace, protect communities and create a safe environment for residents, businesses and investors.
