The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh and the Lagos Neighborhood Watch to ramp up surveillance and security efforts.
EpeInsights reports that this follows rising incidents of harassment and robbery by miscreants targeting road users.
The issue was brought to the fore during a recent plenary session by Hon. Ganiu Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency One.
He raised the alarm under a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by commuters.
“These miscreants continue to terrorize innocent residents, snatching valuables and creating a climate of fear. If left unchecked, this menace could seriously compromise the safety of our State,” Okanlawon warned.
His motion received strong support from fellow lawmakers, who echoed the need for security agencies to enhance their presence, particularly at known black spots throughout Lagos.
There was unanimous agreement on the importance of implementing more robust security strategies to protect the lives and property of residents.
Focus on Fiscal Accountability
In a separate matter, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu of Eti-Osa Constituency Two called for quarterly reviews of the 2025 budget. He stressed the need for improved transparency and accountability among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Responding to the suggestion, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa directed the House Committees on Budget and Economic Planning to take up the matter and present their findings for further deliberation.
As Lagos continues to evolve, both security and accountability remain key pillars in ensuring a safe and well-governed State.
