The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHT, has urged residents to actively participate in the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment across the council area.
Epe Insights reports that the council chairman called on all residents, community leaders, traders, artisans, business owners, and other stakeholders to support the sanitation exercise, which is held across Lagos State on the last Saturday of every month.
According to the council, the environmental sanitation exercise will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., during which residents are expected to clean their homes, business premises, markets, and surrounding communities.
Princess Animashaun stressed that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility and encouraged everyone to make the exercise a priority for the benefit of the entire community.
She advised residents to sweep their compounds, clear blocked drainage channels, remove refuse, trim overgrown vegetation, and ensure that waste is properly disposed of through approved waste management channels.
The chairman noted that maintaining a clean environment plays a significant role in protecting public health and reducing environmental challenges such as flooding, especially during the rainy season.
She explained that blocked drains and indiscriminate waste disposal often contribute to flooding and environmental pollution, making regular sanitation efforts essential.
Princess Animashaun stated that the monthly exercise reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government and Epe Local Government to creating healthier and safer communities.
She added that a clean environment contributes to improved living conditions, enhances the beauty of the community, and supports sustainable development.
The chairman further appealed to residents to see environmental sanitation not merely as a monthly obligation but as a daily lifestyle that benefits everyone.
She encouraged households, market associations, transport unions, youth groups, religious organisations, and community development associations to mobilise members for active participation.
According to her, collective action remains the most effective way to preserve the cleanliness and environmental wellbeing of Epe.
Princess Animashaun reaffirmed that the local government will continue to support initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and encourage responsible waste management practices.
She also reminded residents that compliance with the sanitation exercise will be closely monitored by the Lagos State Government, urging everyone to cooperate with relevant authorities throughout the exercise.
