For over three weeks, residents of the Epe area in Lagos State have been living in total darkness—sparking widespread frustration and fear of a repeat of last year’s extended blackout.

EpeInsights reports that the outage, which began in early April, has crippled businesses, disrupted education and left thousands struggling with basic daily tasks in neighborhoods like Ayetoro, Ita-Opo, Odomola, Mojoda, Poka and others.

A local food vendor, Mrs. Saliu, said “We’re tired of the silence. This is exactly how last year’s five-month blackout started. Now we’re losing money again, and no one’s giving answers.”

Small business owners are especially hit hard. From barbers to electronic repairers, many say they now spend thousands of naira daily on fuel to stay afloat. “I can’t keep burning ₦5,000 worth of fuel every day,” said one repairer in Noforija. “It’s killing my business.”

Community leaders and youth groups are calling on the representative of Epe, Lagos State House of Assembly, constituency two, Hon. Abiodun Tobun and the Chairman Epe Local Government, Hon. Surah Animashaun to take immediate steps and open dialogue with electricity distribution officials.Epe Residents Cry Out Over Prolonged Power Outage, Demand Urgent Action

“This isn’t just about power, it’s about survival, and it’s about leadership, we want transparency and we want action.” said a youth activist.

Residents are also urging the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to break the silence and provide a clear update on the cause of the outage and a timeline for restoration.

As frustration grows and businesses continue to suffer, one message echoes across Epe: “Fix the power now before history repeats itself.”
