The Lagos State Government has responded to reports of a planned protest scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, urging organizers and participants especially the Take It Back Movement to adhere strictly to a court ruling that limits protests to two designated locations in the state.
EpeInsights reports that the Ministry of Justice, in a statement acknowledged citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and protest but emphasized the need to balance such rights with public safety and the rights of other citizens.
The government referenced a January 30, 2025 judgment of the Lagos State High Court in Suit No. LD/8409GCM/2024 between the Attorney-General of Lagos State and Adamma Benita Ukpabi & Others. The court ruled that public protests in Lagos are legally restricted to: Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota and Peace Park, Ketu.
The judgement also stated that organizers and participants involved in protests outside these locations will be held liable—individually and collectively—for any resulting damage, injury, or destruction of public or private property.
The Lagos State Government has therefore advised protest organizers to: restrict all protest activities to the court-approved locations and notify the Nigeria Police Force in advance to ensure adequate security and protection.

The statement reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all residents.
Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Grace Alo, urged Lagosians to go about their lawful activities without fear of disruption.
