The Lagos State Police Command has ramped up security across the state to ensure a safe and crime-free Easter celebration.
EpeInsights reports that the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement issued on Friday noted that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate deployment of a wide range of personnel and tactical units.
These include conventional officers, the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, K9 units, mounted patrols, and other operational teams.
The deployment covers strategic locations throughout Lagos, particularly known flashpoints and crime-prone areas. The goal is to prevent criminal activities, instill public confidence, and ensure a peaceful Easter holiday.
Special attention is being given to churches, recreational centres, and other venues expecting large crowds. The Command assured the public that these areas “will be properly policed.”
The operation is supported by additional logistics, including armoured personnel carriers and patrol vehicles. It forms part of a broader effort to prevent any potential security breaches and maintain public order before, during, and after the Easter festivities.
Commissioner Jimoh emphasized collaboration with other security agencies—including the military, paramilitary forces, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority—to guarantee a coordinated and effective security presence.
He also directed all officers to carry out their duties with professionalism, courtesy, and respect for human rights, while maintaining firmness where necessary.
Lagosians were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. In addition, any instances of police misconduct should be reported to the Command’s Complaint Response Unit.
Jimoh further appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children against any disruptive behavior during the holiday.
In his Easter message, the Commissioner said, “On behalf of all officers and personnel of the Command, we extend warm Easter greetings to all Christian faithful in Lagos. We wish everyone peace, love, and joy throughout this Holy celebration and beyond.”
