The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, has introduced new security measures aimed at strengthening peace, surveillance, and rapid response across communities in the council area.
Epe Insights reports that the initiative includes communication tools, mobility support for security operatives, and an emergency hotline for residents.
The security intervention was unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting , which brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, youth groups, and security agencies. The meeting also had representatives from the military, police, and paramilitary formations, alongside local vigilante and neighborhood safety groups.
During the engagement, the chairman emphasized the need for proactive security measures despite the absence of major recorded incidents within the LCDA. He noted that prevention remains a key strategy in safeguarding lives and property across all communities under the council’s jurisdiction.
He explained that the council had distributed walkie-talkies to enhance real-time communication among local security operatives and traditional institutions. According to him, each royal father in the LCDA received at least three walkie-talkies to ensure seamless coordination with security agencies during emergencies.
The chairman also confirmed the deployment of ten patrol motorcycles to improve surveillance and mobility across communities. He stated that divisions such as Ketu and Agbowa police formations received one motorcycle each, while the remaining units were allocated to local security outfits for patrol operations.
Security agencies present at the meeting included the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, the police, military units, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, and other community-based security operatives. The chairman charged them to ensure effective use of the new logistics for improved safety outcomes.
In addition to equipment distribution, a toll-free emergency line was unveiled for residents to report suspicious movements or security threats. The council leadership explained that the hotline is designed to ensure faster response time and improve communication between residents and security operatives.
Residents were encouraged to adopt a “see something, say something” approach, reinforcing community participation in maintaining law and order. The chairman stressed that timely information sharing remains critical in preventing crime and addressing security threats before they escalate.

The council also announced a restriction on commercial motorcycle operations within the LCDA, stating that all Okada activities must cease by 10:00 PM daily. Authorities warned that violators of the directive would be prosecuted in line with existing local bylaws passed by the legislative arm of the council.
According to the council, the restriction is part of broader efforts to reduce night-time criminal activities and improve safety across communities. The leadership assured residents that enforcement would be carried out fairly while prioritizing public safety.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended the initiative, describing it as a timely response to rising security concerns across the country. Traditional rulers and community leaders pledged continued cooperation with security agencies to ensure the success of the new measures.
The chairman further assured residents that more security investments, including operational vehicles, would be introduced in subsequent phases of the initiative. He emphasized that the administration remains committed to sustaining peace, stability, and development across all parts of the LCDA.
Epe Insights notes that the latest intervention reflects a growing trend of local security strengthening efforts by grassroots governments in Lagos State. The initiative is expected to enhance intelligence gathering, improve rapid response, and deepen collaboration among security stakeholders.
With the introduction of communication tools, patrol logistics, and emergency response systems, the LCDA aims to build a more coordinated and proactive security framework capable of addressing emerging threats effectively
