EpeInsights gathered that he exercise led by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, saw the demolition of makeshift buildings and shanties that had begun to spring up on government-owned land.
The Commissioner, Ekundayo Alebiosu, said the move is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the illegal reoccupation of reclaimed areas.
“We cleared this land last year, and we won’t allow anyone to turn it into a slum again,” Alebiosu stated.
“These structures are not only unsightly but pose serious environmental and security threats. They also go against the Lagos State Mega City Master Plan.”
The Commissioner emphasised that the government is committed to reclaiming the area for the development of a world-class Bluewater Scheme and coastal road network that will benefit the larger community.
He added that enforcement and surveillance will continue to protect the integrity of the site, promising that all waterfronts in Lagos will be secured and upgraded in line with the state’s vision of a cleaner and more globally competitive city.
“This is about protecting the environment, public safety, and the future of Lagos,” he concluded.
