A multiple-vehicle crash on Kara Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, caused severe gridlock and panic early Friday morning, (Good Friday) as several people sustained injuries in the collision.
EpeInsights learnt that the accident, which happened around 6:30 a.m. on Good Friday, involved several vehicles reportedly traveling at high speed.
According to eyewitnesses, the severity of the collision caused major traffic congestion in the area, forcing some desperate motorists to drive against traffic—violating one-way rules.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 7:18 a.m. and involved seven vehicles, including six Toyota vehicles and one green Mack truck.
Preliminary investigations identified speed violations as the likely cause of the accident.
While no fatalities were recorded, five individuals sustained injuries—one adult male, two adult females, and two female children. All injured victims were promptly transported to Winners Hospital at OPIC for medical attention.
FRSC personnel, alongside other emergency responders and sister agencies, swiftly arrived on the scene to manage traffic and begin clearing the wreckage.
According to Route Commander Elizabeth Oluwadamilola Jayeola, Sector Public Education Officer for the FRSC Lagos Sector Command, all vehicles, including the container-carrying truck, have now been removed from the road.
“Motorists are advised to remain calm as our teams are on-site managing the situation and working to ensure the free flow of traffic is fully restored along the Kara-OPIC axis,” she stated.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway particularly the Kara Bridge section remains one of the busiest and most accident-prone routes in the country, often plagued by reckless driving and speed-related crashes.
Motorists are urged to obey traffic rules, avoid overspeeding, and remain patient during emergency recovery operations to help ease traffic and prevent further incidents.
