Ibeju-Lekki LG Monitors Revenue Compliance Across Communities

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has intensified its internally generated revenue (IGR) campaign, urging residents and business owners to comply with approved revenue payments as part of efforts to strengthen service delivery and community development.

Epe Insights reports that the Supervisor for Market and Revenue, Hon. Prince Ahmed Ajibola Elemoro, embarked on a monitoring tour across several communities to assess compliance with approved revenue collections and address revenue leakages.

The inspection covered Onosa, Elesekan, Bogije, Kajola, Lakowe, Eputu, Abijo and Ogunfayo, where the supervisor engaged residents, traders and other stakeholders on the importance of fulfilling their civic obligations.

Hon. Elemoro explained that the exercise forms part of the revenue reform agenda of the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, aimed at improving the council’s internally generated revenue.

He stressed that prompt payment of approved levies remains essential to funding critical projects and delivering quality services to residents across the local government.

According to the supervisor, revenue generated by the council supports investments in infrastructure, environmental sanitation, healthcare, education and other community development initiatives.

He also warned against illegal revenue collection, urging residents to make payments only through authorised government channels to prevent fraud and revenue diversion.

Hon. Elemoro reaffirmed the council’s commitment to transparency and accountability in revenue administration, noting that every lawful payment contributes to the overall development of Ibeju-Lekki.

He assured residents that the Olowa administration would continue to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to eliminate revenue leakages and improve efficiency in the collection process.

The supervisor further encouraged traders, market operators and business owners to cooperate with revenue officials and comply with government regulations for the benefit of the entire community.

Residents and stakeholders who interacted with the monitoring team acknowledged the importance of a transparent revenue system and pledged continued cooperation with the local government.

The council maintained that strengthening internally generated revenue remains vital to expanding development projects and improving the quality of public services available to residents.

Officials also reiterated that responsible revenue administration is necessary to sustain infrastructure development and ensure the continued implementation of people-oriented programmes across Ibeju-Lekki.

The monitoring exercise reflects the local government’s determination to build a more transparent, accountable and financially sustainable council capable of meeting the growing needs of its communities.
