Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has kicked off a vital road construction project in Ikorodu, signaling another step forward in his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life in rural communities.

EpeInsights gathered that the project, which covers Monsuru-Egbeyemi and Alhaja-Agbaje Streets, is a 1.3-kilometre stretch designed to improve access, ease movement, and stimulate economic activity in the Ikorodu Local Government Area.

At the official flag-off event, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje,  described the initiative as a game-changer for local residents.

“This isn’t just about building a road,” Dr. Agbaje said.

“It’s about connecting people to opportunities—farmers to markets, students to schools, and businesses to customers. This road will literally pave the way for growth and prosperity.”

The road will feature essential infrastructure elements such as drainage systems, culverts, an outfall drain, solar-powered streetlights, kerb painting, and lane markings.

These upgrades are part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, particularly in the area of Traffic Management and Transportation.

Residents were urged to take ownership of the project and safeguard it, as public infrastructure is a shared asset funded by taxpayers. Dr. Agbaje assured the community that the road would be completed on schedule, with qualified contractors already engaged and a monitoring framework in place to ensure timely delivery.

Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwo, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, noted that the contractor is set to begin work within the week.Sanwo-Olu Launches Key Rural Road Project in Ikorodu to Drive Development, Connectivity

She reiterated the government’s dedication to delivering meaningful development in Ikorodu and beyond.

Community leaders and dignitaries in attendance, including former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and representatives from Ikorodu Local Government and the APC, applauded the project.

They encouraged residents to support the initiative and discourage actions—like unfair rent hikes—that could diminish its impact.

Representing the local community, Chairman of the Winners Estate CDA, Alhaji Shonibare Lookman, thanked the Governor for responding to long-standing concerns such as erosion and infrastructure gaps.

He also called for more projects to further uplift the area.
