There was a moment of panic and confusion on Wednesday at the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting when Hon. Kolade Alabi, Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), suddenly collapsed while addressing the gathering.
EpeInsights gathered that the incident occurred at the APC Secretariat on Acme Road in Ikeja, Lagos.
Alabi, who also chairs Conference 57 — the umbrella body for all 57 local government and council development area chairmen in the state slumped just moments after delivering his speech.
Party leaders, including Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamza and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, were present at the event.
The meeting was immediately brought to an abrupt end following the incident.
Alabi, a former National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was quickly attended to and revived on the spot before being rushed to a hospital in an ambulance.
A short video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shows the moment he was stretchered out of the venue by emergency responders.
Sources at the meeting have since confirmed that Alabi has recuperated and is now in stable condition. “It was due to the heat in the hall,” one party insider clarified. “Thankfully, he was promptly revived. There was no violence or disruption — just an unfortunate health scare. It could happen to anyone.”
As of now, the specific medical cause of the collapse has not been disclosed, though observers noted the overcrowded and poorly ventilated hall may have been a contributing factor.
The scare has sparked conversation online about the health and working conditions of political office holders, especially as the country heads into an increasingly intense political season.
