The Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Epe Division, His Royal Majesty Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, has announced the cancellation of the 2026 Ojude-Oba Alara Festival.
Epe Insights reports that the decision was taken in honour of the late Omola of Odomola Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeshina Sulaimon Adebowale, who passed away on May 13, 2026.
According to the monarch, the cancellation reflects the kingdom’s respect for the late traditional ruler and solidarity with the people of Odomola during the period of mourning.
The Ojude-Oba Alara Festival is one of the notable cultural events in Ilara Kingdom, attracting indigenes, residents, and visitors who gather annually to celebrate the community’s rich cultural heritage and royal institution.
However, the palace announced that the 2026 edition of the festival will not hold as a mark of honour for the departed monarch. The decision has received the support of community stakeholders and traditional leaders within the area.
Despite the cancellation of the public cultural celebration, residents of Ilara Kingdom have been encouraged to observe the Eid-el-Kabir festivities peacefully with their families and loved ones.

The Alara urged citizens to use the festive period for prayers, reflection, and acts of kindness while maintaining peace and harmony within their communities.
