The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering sustainable water infrastructure through the Lagasa Clean Water Vision while strengthening collaboration with engineering professionals.
Epe Insights reports that Hon. Olowa made this known during the July Monthly General Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibeju-Lekki Branch, held at the Council Secretariat in Igando Oloja.
The monthly gathering brought together engineers, industry professionals and stakeholders to discuss the advancement of engineering practice, professional development and the contribution of the profession to sustainable growth across Ibeju-Lekki.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the proposed Lagasa Water Project, a flagship initiative under the Lagasa Clean Water Vision championed by the council chairman.
The project is designed to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply system capable of serving households across the local government while meeting future population demands.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Olowa praised members of the NSE Water Project Committee for the extensive work carried out on the initiative.
He described the committee’s efforts as commendable, noting that the project reflects a practical and long-term solution to one of the essential needs of residents.
According to the chairman, the vision is to establish a scalable and properly metered water distribution network that will ensure clean and safe water reaches homes efficiently.
He explained that access to potable water remains a key priority of his administration, adding that the project will significantly improve public health, sanitation and the quality of life for residents.
Hon. Olowa also congratulated the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ibeju-Lekki Branch, on its remarkable growth despite being less than one year old.
He said the branch has continued to distinguish itself through impactful engagements and professional contributions to community development.
The council boss noted that his continuous support for the engineering body is driven by his confidence in the future of Ibeju-Lekki and the important role engineers play in shaping modern communities.
He stressed that collaboration between government and professional bodies remains essential for delivering quality infrastructure and sustainable development.
During the meeting, Hon. Olowa also drew attention to the Career Accelerator Programme (CAP), an initiative of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government aimed at preparing young people for employment.
He urged members of the engineering profession to help promote the programme within their organisations and professional networks.
According to him, CAP is designed to equip participants with practical and industry-relevant skills that align with the growing demands of employers operating within the region.
The chairman expressed optimism that stronger partnerships between government, engineers and private organisations would create more opportunities for young people.
He specifically encouraged companies operating within Ibeju-Lekki’s rapidly expanding industrial corridor to take advantage of the programme.
These organisations include the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery and several other businesses driving economic growth in the area.
Hon. Olowa noted that the local government is committed to building a workforce that is prepared to meet the manpower needs of industries within the corridor.
He added that creating employment opportunities for residents remains one of the core objectives of his administration.
The meeting further highlighted the growing relationship between the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and professional institutions working towards sustainable development.
Participants also emphasised the importance of engineering innovation in addressing infrastructure challenges, improving public services and supporting economic expansion.
The engagement ended with renewed commitments from stakeholders to continue working together in advancing developmental initiatives that will benefit residents of Ibeju-Lekki.
The Lagasa Clean Water Vision and the Career Accelerator Programme remain two of the strategic initiatives through which the Olowa administration hopes to improve living standards, strengthen infrastructure and empower the next generation of skilled professionals.
