Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has taken another step towards strengthening peace and preserving traditional institutions by facilitating an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) meeting over the succession to the vacant stool of the Onise of Ise Kingdom.
Epe Insights reports that the peace meeting was held at the Lekki LCDA Secretariat under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), as part of efforts to foster dialogue and promote lasting harmony within the community.
The mediation session brought together traditional rulers, members of the various Ise royal families, and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on the succession matter in a peaceful atmosphere.
The process was coordinated by the council’s Legal Officer, Mrs. Fola Roberts, with the support of two senior legal practitioners who guided discussions to ensure fairness, openness, and mutual understanding.
Among those in attendance were the Onilekki of Lekki, the Onilepia of Lepia, representatives of the Ise royal families, and other respected community leaders committed to finding a common ground.
During the engagement, participants exchanged views and explored practical ways of resolving the dispute through dialogue instead of litigation.
The council explained that Alternative Dispute Resolution remains an effective approach to settling disagreements by encouraging negotiation, consensus, and reconciliation among affected parties.
Unlike lengthy court proceedings, ADR provides an opportunity for disputing parties to reach amicable agreements while preserving relationships and reducing unnecessary costs.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Kasali administration to ensuring that sensitive traditional matters are handled through peaceful engagement and respect for established customs.
The Executive Chairman believes that strong traditional institutions contribute significantly to community stability, cultural preservation, and sustainable grassroots development.
Stakeholders commended the council for providing a neutral platform where every concerned party could freely express their position in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Participants also acknowledged the importance of dialogue in preventing prolonged disputes that could affect peace and unity within the kingdom.
Community leaders expressed optimism that the mediation process would lay the foundation for a peaceful and widely accepted resolution of the succession issue.
Observers noted that the meeting demonstrated the value of collaboration between local government, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders in addressing sensitive matters affecting the people.
They added that resolving disputes through dialogue strengthens public confidence and promotes lasting social harmony across communities.
The administration of Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali has consistently encouraged consultation, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive governance as essential pillars of development in Lekki LCDA.
The ADR session further reinforces the council’s resolve to support traditional institutions while creating an environment where disagreements are resolved through understanding rather than conflict.
As discussions continue, stakeholders remain hopeful that the peaceful engagement initiated by the council will produce a lasting solution that protects the dignity of the Onise traditional institution and promotes unity among the people of Ise Kingdom.
