The Epe Division of the Lagos State Baales Forum has intensified efforts to promote civic responsibility with the launch of its “Operation Show Your PVC” campaign, aimed at encouraging greater participation in the democratic process across the division.
Epe Insights reports that the Civic Awareness and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) Sensitisation Campaign was held at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat, bringing together traditional rulers, Baales, political leaders, and other stakeholders committed to strengthening grassroots civic engagement.
The awareness programme was organised under the “Operation Show Your PVC” initiative of the Lagos State Baales Forum, a campaign designed to encourage eligible citizens to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards.
The event was hosted by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman of Conference 57, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of civic responsibility in sustaining democratic governance.
In his address, Hon. Olowa described the traditional institution as a vital partner in governance, noting that Baales remain the closest representatives of government at the grassroots level.
He said traditional leaders play an important role in connecting communities with government policies while promoting peace, unity, and community development.

According to the chairman, the rapid transformation taking place across Epe Division through strategic investments and infrastructure development must be matched with increased civic participation by residents.
He stressed that development thrives in communities where citizens actively participate in governance and fulfil their civic responsibilities.
Hon. Olowa encouraged eligible residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards, collect them when ready, and keep them safe for future elections.
He also urged the Baales to continue serving as advocates of peace, responsible citizenship, and community mobilisation within their respective domains.
The chairman noted that traditional rulers remain influential voices whose guidance can inspire greater public participation in democratic activities.
He called on community leaders to educate residents on the importance of voter registration and active engagement in the electoral process.
Participants at the event described the campaign as a timely initiative that will strengthen awareness about civic duties while encouraging wider participation in democratic governance.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving voter education and promoting peaceful community engagement.
Community leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that encourage responsible citizenship and sustainable grassroots development.
The “Operation Show Your PVC” campaign reflects the Lagos State Baales Forum’s continued efforts to promote democratic values through collaboration with traditional institutions and local government authorities.
Observers noted that the involvement of Baales in civic education is expected to increase awareness among residents and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process.
The initiative also reinforces the important role traditional institutions play in promoting social harmony, community development, and active civic participation.
As preparations for future electoral activities continue, participants pledged to sustain grassroots sensitisation efforts that will encourage more eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and contribute meaningfully to democratic governance.
The campaign concluded with renewed calls for unity, peaceful coexistence, and collective responsibility, as stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to building stronger communities through informed civic participation and active engagement in the democratic process.
