Hon. Akinloye Encourage Active Civic Participation

The Civic Awareness and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) Sensitisation Campaign brought together Baales, local government chairmen, political leaders, and stakeholders at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat to encourage greater grassroots participation in democratic activities.

Epe Insights reports that the Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, described the initiative as timely and impactful.

He noted that traditional institutions remain indispensable partners in advancing community development, strengthening peaceful coexistence, and encouraging democratic participation at the grassroots.

Hon. Akinloye commended the Lagos State Baales Forum for sustaining civic awareness programmes capable of increasing public understanding of democratic responsibilities.

He urged community leaders to continue educating residents on the value of obtaining and safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards as an important civic responsibility.

The council chairman further stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved when citizens actively participate in governance and support initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Lagos State Baales Forum, High Chief Abu Jelili Ododo, charged Baales across the state to remain committed to purposeful leadership.

He encouraged traditional leaders to continue serving as symbols of peace, unity, and progress within their respective communities.

According to High Chief Ododo, Baales occupy strategic positions that enable them to educate residents on civic duties while fostering harmony and social stability.

He urged the traditional leaders to sustain efforts that promote responsible citizenship and encourage wider community participation in democratic activities.

Participants at the sensitisation programme described the campaign as a valuable platform for strengthening civic awareness and grassroots mobilisation.

Many noted that the active involvement of traditional rulers would significantly improve public participation in voter education and democratic engagement.

Stakeholders also commended the collaboration between local government authorities and the Lagos State Baales Forum in promoting peaceful and inclusive community development.

The gathering reaffirmed the important role of traditional institutions in supporting government initiatives that encourage civic responsibility and strengthen democracy.

As the campaign continues across Lagos State, organisers expressed confidence that the sustained involvement of Baales and community leaders will increase awareness, promote responsible citizenship, and encourage more eligible residents to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards.

The “Operation Show Your PVC” initiative remains one of the key grassroots programmes designed to deepen democratic participation while reinforcing the values of unity, peace, and community development throughout Epe Division and beyond.
