The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has officially flagged off a street sweeper initiative aimed at addressing sand spillages on major roads within the axis.
Epe Insights reports that the initiative was launched during a working visit by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, led by Director Mr. Akinkunmi Akinpelu, who supervised the official deployment of the sanitation team.
The exercise is designed to tackle persistent sand deposits on roadsides caused by heavy-duty trucks operating within the Ibeju-Lekki corridor, which have contributed to road obstruction and environmental concerns in the area.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant state officials for their continued support in promoting a cleaner environment.
He noted that the partnership between state and local authorities reflects a shared commitment to improving sanitation, road safety, and environmental sustainability across the Lekki axis.

Mr. Akinpelu, speaking at the event, appreciated the cooperation of the local government and charged the newly deployed street sweepers to remain diligent in their duties.
He emphasized that there would be zero tolerance for sand spillages on roads, especially along routes heavily used by trucks and construction vehicles.
According to him, the success of the initiative depends on the commitment of the sweepers in ensuring that all affected roads are kept clean, safe, and motorable for residents and commuters.
The Supervisor for Environment in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, assured the sweepers of continuous government support and supervision to enhance effective service delivery.

He urged them to remain dedicated and take their responsibilities seriously, noting that their work plays a critical role in maintaining public health and environmental order.
Also speaking at the programme, one of the supervisors of the street sweepers, Mrs. Oye Elizabeth, expressed appreciation to the government for creating employment opportunities through the initiative.
She stated that the programme has provided financial relief for many families while contributing to environmental cleanliness across the local government area.
Mrs. Elizabeth assured officials that the sweepers would carry out their duties with discipline, commitment, and respect for public service.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to promote sustainable environmental management, improve road conditions, and enhance community development.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuous collaboration in addressing environmental challenges associated with rapid industrial and infrastructural development in the Lekki axis.
