The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has commenced a new environmental sanitation initiative in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to address sand spillage along major roads in the area.

Epe Insights reports that the official flag-off ceremony was led by officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, under the supervision of Mr. Akinkunmi Akinpelu, who described the exercise as a necessary response to growing environmental challenges along the Lekki corridor.

The programme focuses on removing sand deposits frequently left on roadsides by heavy-duty trucks operating within the fast-developing Ibeju-Lekki axis, which has continued to affect road safety and traffic flow.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka, praised the Lagos State Government for its continued partnership in improving environmental standards across the state.

He noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment between state and local authorities to maintain cleaner roads, improve public safety, and ensure a healthier environment for residents and commuters.

Mr. Akinpelu reiterated the importance of discipline and diligence among the newly engaged street sweepers, stressing that the success of the exercise depends on consistent and effective service delivery.

He warned that strict enforcement would be applied to ensure zero tolerance for sand spillage across affected roads, particularly those heavily used by construction and industrial vehicles.

The Director added that maintaining cleaner roads is essential to supporting the rapid development taking place within the Lekki corridor and surrounding communities.
