The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, were honoured at the Champion Newspapers’ 2025 Annual Awards ceremony.

EpeInsights reports that the event was held on Saturday, June 7, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The prestigious event, organised by Champion Newspapers Limited, brought together top government officials, business leaders and key stakeholders to celebrate individuals and institutions who have demonstrated excellence, innovation and dedication to national development.

Dr. Hamzat was recognised for his contributions to the continued development of Lagos State, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, innovation, and strategic planning.

His role in supporting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and driving policy implementation was highlighted as instrumental to the state’s progress.

Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa was presented with the Outstanding Grassroots Leadership Award (2024) in recognition of his impactful governance model at the local level.

Under his leadership, Ibeju-Lekki has witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment initiatives, making the local government a benchmark for effective grassroots administration.

In his acceptance speech, Olowa dedicated the award to the residents of Ibeju-Lekki, acknowledging their support and trust in his administration.

“This award belongs to the good people of Ibeju-Lekki. It is a testament to what is possible when leadership is focused, transparent, and committed to service,” he said.

“We are building a local government that works for everyone, and this recognition inspires us to do more.”

The ceremony was chaired by renowned technology entrepreneur, Leo Stan Ekeh, who called on leaders at all levels to prioritise performance, people-centered policies and measurable results.
