LAHA Committee Commends Olowa’s Performance

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commended the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, for his leadership and the significant development recorded across the council area.

Epe Insights reports that the commendation came during an official oversight visit by the Lagos Assembly Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Ganiyu Sanni Okanlawon, as part of the House’s constitutional responsibility to assess the performance of local governments and promote accountability in grassroots governance.

The delegation included Hon. Oladele Ajayi (Ibeju-Lekki II), Hon. Samuel Apata, Hon. Olusegun Adebisi (Ege), Hon. Surajudeen Tijani (Emir), Hon. Wale Yusuf, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Hon. Adebola Rasheed (Shabi), and Hon. Jubril Abdulkareem.

The lawmakers were received by Hon. Olowa alongside members of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government management team, who presented an overview of the council’s development initiatives and ongoing projects.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Hon. Ganiyu Sanni Okanlawon applauded the council chairman for what he described as outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to grassroots development.

He said the committee was impressed by the level of progress achieved under Olowa’s administration, noting that the projects and programmes executed reflect purposeful leadership and effective governance.

Hon. Okanlawon described Olowa as “a round peg in a round hole,” saying the chairman has demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of public office and the expectations of the people.

The committee chairman recalled his previous oversight visit to Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, during which he referred to Olowa as “Mr. All-Rounder” because of his performance across different sectors.

According to him, the development witnessed during the latest visit shows that the pace of progress has not only been maintained but has continued to expand through impactful projects and people-focused initiatives.

He encouraged the chairman to remain committed to sustaining the development agenda while building on the achievements already recorded for the benefit of residents.

Other members of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs also commended Olowa’s administration for its transparent leadership and commitment to delivering projects that directly impact communities.

The lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the council’s performance, noting that the level of development observed during the inspection reflects prudent management of public resources and effective service delivery.

They also praised the administration’s people-oriented programmes, which they said have contributed to improving infrastructure, community welfare, and grassroots development across Ibeju-Lekki.

Members of the committee urged the local government to sustain its development efforts and continue implementing policies that improve the quality of life for residents.

The lawmakers emphasised that the Assembly’s oversight function is designed not only to monitor public projects but also to strengthen accountability, transparency, and effective governance at the local government level.

They noted that regular oversight visits provide an opportunity for constructive engagement with council administrations while encouraging the adoption of best practices in public service.

Responding to the committee’s observations, Hon. Olowa appreciated the lawmakers for their visit and for recognising the achievements of his administration.

He described the committee’s commendation as a source of encouragement and reaffirmed his commitment to implementing more people-centred projects across the local government.

Olowa assured the lawmakers that his administration would continue prioritising infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and other initiatives aimed at improving residents’ wellbeing.

He also pledged to sustain transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources in line with the expectations of the people and the Lagos State Government.

The oversight visit concluded with a renewed commitment by both the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to strengthen collaboration in advancing grassroots development.

Stakeholders described the engagement as another demonstration of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that local governments remain responsive, accountable, and focused on delivering meaningful development to communities across Lagos State.
