The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, led residents and top government officials in the July edition of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and a cleaner Ibeju-Lekki.
Epe Insights reports that Olowa was joined by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab; members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents during the sanitation exercise held in Eputu Community.
The large turnout underscored growing support for Olowa’s environmental agenda, which places cleanliness, public health, and sustainable development among the key priorities of his administration.
Leading from the front, the council chairman actively participated in the cleanup exercise, working alongside residents to clear streets, remove waste, and clean drainage channels across the community.
Olowa said environmental sanitation remains a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of government and citizens to achieve lasting results.
He noted that maintaining a clean environment is essential to protecting public health, preventing flooding, and improving the quality of life for residents across Ibeju-Lekki.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s determination to strengthen environmental awareness through regular sanitation campaigns and community engagement programmes.
He encouraged residents to make environmental cleanliness a daily habit rather than limiting it to the monthly sanitation exercise.
Olowa also appealed to households, traders, artisans, transport operators, and business owners to support government efforts by disposing of waste responsibly and keeping their surroundings clean.
The participation of the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, added significance to the exercise as she joined residents in promoting environmental responsibility and community cleanliness.
Also present was the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, who participated alongside other dignitaries in demonstrating the importance of collective action in preserving the environment.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, commended the spirit of community participation and reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving environmental sanitation across the state.
Members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) also joined the exercise, lending support to initiatives aimed at creating cleaner and healthier communities.
Traditional institutions were represented by the Ologunfayo of Ogunfayo, Oba Idogun Adewunmi Larrys, who joined Olowa and other dignitaries in encouraging residents to embrace environmental responsibility.
Residents of Eputu Community turned out in large numbers to support the exercise, cleaning roads, public spaces, drainage channels, and other strategic locations within the community.
The exercise also served as an opportunity to educate residents on proper waste management and the importance of using approved waste disposal channels.
Olowa stressed that indiscriminate waste disposal remains a major contributor to blocked drainage systems and flooding, urging residents to work together to keep communities clean throughout the year.
He stated that environmental protection is a critical component of sustainable development and remains central to his administration’s vision for a modern and healthy Ibeju-Lekki.
According to the chairman, government will continue to partner with community leaders, traditional rulers, environmental agencies, and residents to sustain the gains recorded through regular sanitation exercises.
He expressed appreciation to the First Lady, the wife of the Deputy Governor, the Commissioner for the Environment, COWLSO members, traditional rulers, and residents for supporting the initiative.
Olowa described their presence as a strong endorsement of the importance of community participation in building a cleaner Lagos.
He reaffirmed that his administration will continue implementing policies and programmes that promote environmental sustainability, improve public health, and enhance the overall wellbeing of residents.
The successful sanitation exercise concluded with renewed calls for residents to remain committed to cleanliness, environmental protection, and responsible waste management as Ibeju-Lekki continues its rapid growth and development.
Under Olowa’s leadership, the local government says it will sustain initiatives that encourage collective responsibility and position Ibeju-Lekki as one of Lagos State’s cleanest and most environmentally conscious communities.
