Hon. Olowa Orders Immediate Intervention in Flood-Hit Communities

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has led a comprehensive inspection of flood-affected communities, directing immediate interventions to reduce the impact of recent heavy rainfall.

Epe Insights reports that the chairman embarked on an extensive flood response tour alongside key officials of the local government, assessing affected communities and issuing on-the-spot directives to improve drainage, restore access, and safeguard lives and property.

The exercise formed part of the council’s proactive response to environmental challenges caused by persistent rainfall across several parts of Ibeju-Lekki.

During the inspection, Hon. Olowa visited flood-prone roads, drainage channels, canals, culverts, and other public infrastructure requiring urgent government attention.

The chairman carefully assessed the condition of each location before directing immediate measures to address identified challenges.

Communities visited during the exercise included Eluju, Eleko, Solu, Solu Alade, Alahun, Desa, Bogije, Abule Pan, Lagasa, Eputu Canal, Bolunrupelu, the Container axis in Awoyaya, and Beachwood Estate.

Each community received detailed attention based on its specific drainage and environmental concerns.

Officials accompanying the chairman carried out technical assessments to identify practical solutions capable of reducing flooding and improving water flow.

One of the major stops during the inspection was Bogije Community, where the chairman visited an ongoing dredging site.

The inspection focused on the overflow caused by recent heavy rainfall, which has contributed significantly to flooding within the community.

Following the assessment, Hon. Olowa directed that immediate interventions be implemented to reduce the impact of flooding and improve drainage efficiency.

He stressed the importance of swift action to protect residents, preserve public infrastructure, and minimise disruptions to daily activities.

The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responding promptly to environmental challenges affecting communities across the local government.
