The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has approved a series of emergency interventions following an extensive inspection of flood-affected communities across the council area.
Epe Insights reports that the chairman visited several locations impacted by recent heavy rainfall, where he assessed damaged infrastructure and directed immediate measures to restore access, strengthen drainage systems, and reduce future flooding.
The inspection tour formed part of the local government’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental resilience and protect residents from the effects of recurring floods.
At Abule Pan, Hon. Olowa inspected sections of the road badly affected by floodwater and approved immediate emergency road stabilisation works.
He explained that the intervention would restore access for motorists and residents while longer-term plans are developed to provide a permanent solution for the corridor.
The chairman noted that improved road access remains essential for mobility, economic activities, and emergency response within the community.
During the visit to Lagasa, the inspection identified the need for additional drainage infrastructure to improve stormwater management.
Following the assessment, Hon. Olowa approved the construction of a reinforced drainage culvert to enhance water flow and reduce the risk of flooding.
He stated that the new drainage facility would provide a durable solution capable of supporting the area’s growing population and expanding infrastructure.
The chairman also visited the Eputu Canal, where accumulated silt and debris were restricting the free movement of water.

He immediately directed maintenance teams to begin manual desilting of the canal to restore its capacity while broader drainage improvement plans are being developed.
According to the chairman, regular maintenance of canals and drainage channels remains critical to effective flood control.
At the Container axis in Awoyaya, Hon. Olowa reviewed the completed design for a new drainage culvert prepared for the area.
Satisfied with the proposed design, he confirmed that the project has been awarded to O2S Construction, with physical work scheduled to commence on Thursday.
The chairman expressed confidence that the project would improve stormwater evacuation, protect the road infrastructure, and enhance traffic movement within the corridor.
Beyond the major intervention sites, Hon. Olowa also inspected Eluju, Eleko, Solu, Solu Alade, Alahun, Desa, Bolunrupelu, and Beachwood Estate.
He identified additional flood-prone locations and directed the relevant departments to prioritise drainage maintenance, channel improvements, and other necessary environmental interventions.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responding promptly to infrastructure challenges through practical planning and sustainable solutions.

He stated that strengthening drainage infrastructure would remain a major priority as Ibeju-Lekki continues to experience rapid growth and urban development.
Hon. Olowa appealed to residents, developers, and business owners to support government efforts by keeping drainage channels free from refuse and complying with environmental regulations.
He stressed that proper environmental practices remain essential for reducing flooding and protecting public infrastructure.
Residents welcomed the swift response, expressing optimism that the approved projects would improve road conditions, enhance drainage systems, and reduce the impact of heavy rainfall.
The flood response tour demonstrated the local government’s commitment to responsive leadership, proactive environmental management, and sustainable infrastructure development.
With emergency works already underway and new drainage projects approved, residents are hopeful that the interventions will strengthen flood resilience and improve the quality of life across communities in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
