Eredo Warns Against Illegal Dumping

The Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has warned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, roadsides and expressways across the council area.

Epe Insights reports that the council has declared illegal waste disposal a violation of environmental regulations, stressing that offenders will face sanctions in line with the environmental laws of Lagos State.

The chairman said the directive forms part of the administration’s commitment to promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment for residents.

According to the council, waste compactor trucks have been deployed to move from street to street to collect refuse directly from households and communities.

The door-to-door waste collection initiative is expected to eliminate the need for residents to dispose of refuse at unauthorized locations.

Hon. Akinloye urged residents to cooperate with sanitation officials by properly bagging their waste and waiting for the designated compactor trucks to arrive.

He noted that responsible waste disposal is essential to preventing environmental pollution, blocked drainage channels and flooding, especially during the rainy season.

The chairman stressed that maintaining environmental cleanliness requires the active participation of every resident and community stakeholder.

He warned that anyone caught dumping refuse on road medians, highways or other prohibited locations would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Lagos State environmental regulations.

The council explained that strict enforcement has become necessary to discourage environmental abuse and preserve public health across Eredo LCDA.

Residents were also encouraged to support the local government’s environmental initiatives by reporting individuals involved in illegal refuse dumping.

Environmental officials reaffirmed that cleaner communities contribute to healthier living conditions and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

The administration pledged to sustain regular waste evacuation, environmental monitoring and enforcement activities to keep public spaces clean and orderly.

The renewed enforcement campaign reflects Eredo LCDA’s determination to strengthen environmental sanitation, improve waste management and promote a culture of responsible refuse disposal throughout the council area.
