The administration of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has introduced fresh measures aimed at strengthening security, improving operator identification, and enhancing revenue generation across the council area.
Epe Insights reports that the Supervisor for Market and Revenue, Hon. Ahmed Ajibola Elemoro, held a strategic meeting with chairmen of Tricycle, Motorcycle (Okada), and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) units operating within Ibeju-Lekki.
The meeting was convened to communicate key directives from the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, as part of ongoing efforts to improve regulation within the transportation sector.
During the engagement, stakeholders discussed measures designed to strengthen security monitoring and ensure proper documentation of transport operators across various communities.
One of the major resolutions reached at the meeting was the compulsory identification and documentation of all motorcycle operators by their respective unit leadership.
Officials explained that maintaining an accurate database of operators would support security agencies in profiling commercial riders and addressing security concerns more effectively.
The local government also reaffirmed its directive restricting motorcycle operations beyond 10:00 p.m. as part of broader efforts to improve public safety across the area.

According to officials, the measure is intended to reduce security risks and assist law enforcement agencies in monitoring movement during late hours.
The administration further announced that the use of officially approved aprons by transport operators would become mandatory.
The approved aprons will serve as a visible means of identification and help distinguish registered operators from unauthorized individuals.
Participants were also informed that possession of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) would now be compulsory for all operators within the transportation sector.
The directive is expected to strengthen accountability and improve record-keeping among commercial transport workers across Ibeju-Lekki.
Another key issue discussed was the profiling of foreign nationals engaged in commercial transportation activities within the local government.
The council directed such individuals to report to the Immigration Office located at the Local Government Secretariat for proper documentation and verification.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Elemoro highlighted the importance of revenue generation in driving government development initiatives and service delivery.
He noted that compliance with established regulations would contribute significantly to the growth and development of Ibeju-Lekki.

The Supervisor urged transport unions and operators to work closely with the local government in implementing policies designed to improve order and accountability.
He emphasized that cooperation from stakeholders remains essential to achieving the administration’s development objectives.
Hon. Elemoro further reiterated the commitment of the Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa-led administration to protecting lives and property through proactive governance.
He stated that security remains a top priority for the council, particularly as Ibeju-Lekki continues to experience rapid economic and infrastructural growth.
The administration, he said, remains focused on creating a safe and organized environment capable of attracting investment and supporting sustainable development.
Participants at the meeting welcomed the engagement and described it as a positive step toward strengthening collaboration between government and transport operators.
Representatives of the various transport unions expressed appreciation for the opportunity to discuss issues affecting their members directly with government officials.
They pledged their support for the security measures and promised to encourage compliance among operators within their respective units.
Stakeholders also acknowledged the importance of proper identification and documentation in promoting safety and reducing criminal activities.
Many participants noted that improved regulation of the transportation sector would benefit both operators and residents.
Observers believe the latest directives reflect the local government’s determination to strengthen security while promoting responsible transportation practices.
Community leaders have also commended the administration’s efforts to engage stakeholders in policy implementation rather than relying solely on enforcement.
Residents expressed optimism that the measures would contribute to improved safety and orderliness across the local government area.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from transport operators to support the administration’s vision for a safer, more secure, and better-regulated Ibeju-Lekki.
As implementation begins, stakeholders are expected to work together to ensure full compliance with the new directives and sustain the progress already recorded in the local government.
