In a bid to improve healthcare service delivery, WaterAid Nigeria has successfully renovated the Odo-Nla Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ikorodu North LCDA.
Epe Insights learnt that the transformation includes the installation of a 12,000-litre water plant and the provision of two sets of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) maintenance kits to ensure better hygiene and infection control within the facility.
The official commissioning and handover ceremony, which took place on March 25, 2025, brought together key stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of clean water and sanitation in delivering quality healthcare.
Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District II, commended WaterAid Nigeria for its initiative, highlighting the critical role of a safe and clean environment in healthcare. She stated, “These WASH kits are vital in ensuring that healthcare facilities serve not only as treatment centres but also as safe spaces that protect patients and healthcare workers from preventable diseases. This renovation has significantly improved the facility, creating a more conducive environment for healthcare delivery.”
Dr. Lajide also spoke about the introduction of wellness clinics focused on preventive care, encouraging the community to take full advantage of the upgraded services. She urged healthcare workers and residents to ensure the continued upkeep of the facility to maintain the high standards established by WaterAid’s intervention.

Builder Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, expressed the positive impact of the renovation on the local community, saying, “The commissioning of these WASH maintenance kits is a milestone for us, demonstrating our commitment to improving sanitation and hygiene in our healthcare centres, ultimately benefiting the residents of Ikorodu North LCDA.”
Mrs. Evelyn Mere, Country Director of WaterAid Nigeria, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system by improving WASH services. “WaterAid is dedicated to ensuring that every healthcare facility, including Odo-Nla PHC, is equipped with sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. Our partnership with Ikorodu North LCDA and Lagos Health District II reflects our shared vision of creating safer healthcare environments for patients and staff alike,” she said.

The ceremony also featured the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WaterAid Nigeria and Ikorodu North LCDA, solidifying their commitment to sustaining the improvements at Odo-Nla PHC.
