Independence Bridge Closure: Lagos Government Issues Traffic Advisory

Lagos motorists have been advised to avoid the Independence Bridge corridor unless on urgent business, as the ongoing repair work has led to heavy traffic congestion.

Epe Insights reports that the bridge was closed 2 days ago by the Federal Government for urgent maintenance.

However, it is currently experiencing a traffic lockdown, particularly during peak hours.

In response, the Lagos State Government has provided alternative routes to ease movement for affected commuters:

Alternative Routes:

  • For motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way: Use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and connect to Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road.
  • For those traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way to 3rd Mainland Bridge: Take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, link Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and connect to Ring Road.
  • For motorists going from Ahmadu Bello Way to Inner Marina/CMS: Use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and link Obafemi Awolowo Road to J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road.

The government in a statement signed by the Deputy Director Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunlola, urged motorists to adhere to these alternative routes and cooperate with traffic management officials to facilitate smoother movement.
