The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has launched the Career Accelerator Programme (CAP), a youth-focused initiative designed to equip young residents with practical skills, professional exposure, and career development opportunities.
Epe Insights reports that the Career Accelerator Programme targets young people between the ages of 18 and 35, preparing them for employment and entrepreneurship in the rapidly expanding Ibeju-Lekki industrial corridor.
The programme is being implemented through a partnership between Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Genzaar Eduworld, African Fintech Foundry (AFF), and GIZ under the ZME initiative.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Olowa said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the area’s rapid development extend to its young population.
He explained that as Ibeju-Lekki continues to attract industries, businesses, and investments, deliberate efforts must be made to prepare local youths to compete for emerging opportunities.
According to the chairman, sustainable development is not only about constructing roads and physical infrastructure but also about investing in human capital.
Earlier in the day, Hon. Olowa commissioned the newly completed 900-metre Lakowe–Losoro–Lagasa Road, describing it as a project that improves connectivity and opens communities to greater economic opportunities.
He linked the road project with the Career Accelerator Programme, noting that infrastructure creates opportunities while education and skills empower people to take advantage of them.
The chairman stated that the combination of improved infrastructure and youth empowerment will contribute significantly to the long-term development of Ibeju-Lekki.
As part of the programme launch, Hon. Olowa also commissioned a fully equipped ICT Centre that will serve as the training hub for participants.
The facility features modern computers and internet connectivity, providing an environment for digital learning, practical training, innovation, and professional development.
The chairman described the ICT Centre as another investment in preparing young people for careers in a technology-driven economy.
He stressed that providing quality learning facilities is essential to equipping participants with relevant skills required in today’s competitive labour market.
Hon. Olowa said the Career Accelerator Programme combines practical learning, mentorship, career guidance, leadership development, and workplace exposure.
He explained that participants will gain valuable experience that will improve their employability while encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.
The chairman urged participants to approach the programme with discipline, commitment, and a willingness to learn, noting that their future success depends largely on how they maximise the opportunity.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to develop the confidence, competence, and resilience needed to thrive in their chosen careers.
Hon. Olowa reaffirmed that his administration will continue introducing programmes that empower young people through education, digital innovation, and skills acquisition.
He added that strategic investments in youth development remain essential to building a productive workforce capable of driving economic growth within the local government.
