Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in collaboration with Lagos State Health District III and the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, has commenced the 2026 Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Week across all Primary Health Centres within the council area.
Epe Insights reports that the week-long healthcare intervention is scheduled to run from July 20 to July 24, 2026, with the aim of expanding access to essential health services for pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and adolescents.
The annual programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government and its healthcare partners to improve maternal and child health while promoting preventive healthcare at the grassroots.
Health officials said the initiative is designed to reduce preventable illnesses by ensuring that vulnerable groups receive timely medical attention and essential healthcare services.
Residents of Lekki LCDA have been encouraged to take full advantage of the free medical services available throughout the exercise.
The council explained that all eligible beneficiaries can access the programme at designated Primary Health Centres across the local council area.
Among the services available during the health week are antenatal care for expectant mothers and postnatal care for women who have recently given birth.
Health workers will also provide family planning services for both men and women, helping families make informed reproductive health decisions.
The programme includes nutritional screening to identify children and mothers who may require additional nutritional support.
Vitamin A supplementation will also be administered to eligible children as part of efforts to improve immunity and promote healthy growth.
Officials said deworming services will be offered to children to help prevent infections that can affect nutrition, growth and overall development.
Growth monitoring for children is another key component of the exercise, enabling healthcare professionals to assess development and identify early signs of health challenges.
According to the council, early detection and timely intervention remain critical to improving long-term health outcomes for children.
Pregnant women have also been encouraged to attend antenatal clinics regularly to receive professional medical guidance throughout pregnancy.
The council noted that routine antenatal care contributes significantly to safer pregnancies and healthier childbirth outcomes.
Nursing mothers were equally advised to visit Primary Health Centres for postnatal care, health education and infant care support.
Health professionals explained that postnatal care plays an important role in protecting the health of both mothers and newborn babies after delivery.
The initiative also focuses on adolescent health by providing age-appropriate healthcare services and health education.
