The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has officially kicked off its 25th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of a commemorative emblem at a high-profile press briefing held at its Oshodi Headquarters.

EpeInsights reports that the event marks the beginning of a series of activities celebrating a quarter-century of dedicated traffic management and regulatory service in Lagos State.

The silver jubilee emblem, which symbolizes 25 years of excellence, discipline, and public service, was unveiled in the presence of dignitaries from the transportation sector, top government officials, and members of the press.

In his welcome address, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government and road users for their enduring support over the years.

He highlighted the agency’s evolution and reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to professionalism, innovation, and a safer, more efficient traffic ecosystem.

Bakare-Oki also addressed recent institutional reforms within LASTMA, noting a strengthened internal code of ethics.

He revealed that from December 2023 to date, 12 officers were dismissed, 19 demoted, 17 warned, and 12 resigned due to disciplinary breaches.

These measures, he said, reflect the agency’s drive to align with international best practices in public service and traffic enforcement.

Speaking on behalf of the Lagos State Government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, commended LASTMA’s contributions to the city’s traffic management evolution.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government bodies and the public in achieving safer roads and improved urban mobility.

“This silver jubilee is a time for reflection, renewal, and future-focused planning,” Giwa stated. “It offers a platform to appreciate the selfless service of LASTMA personnel and to chart a sustainable and tech-driven course for traffic management in Lagos.”

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Lagos State Government will unveil a landmark 20-Year Traffic Management Plan (TMP) during a forthcoming 3-Day Traffic Conference.

The TMP is expected to outline long-term strategies for handling traffic challenges before, during, and after major infrastructure projects, as well as during high-impact public events.

With the anniversary theme, “LASTMA @ 25: Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads – Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovation,” the celebration is poised to spotlight achievements, address existing road-use challenges, and propose forward-thinking solutions.

Scheduled to run from July 15 to 17, 2025, the silver jubilee will feature a lineup of activities including keynote presentations by Nigerian and international experts, award ceremonies for outstanding personnel, and stakeholder recognition events—all aimed at reaffirming LASTMA’s pivotal role in shaping Lagos’ transportation future.
