In anticipation of the rainy season, the Epe Local Government Council of Lagos State has commenced a widespread drainage desilting operation across key communities in a proactive move to prevent flooding and protect residents.

Chairman of the council, Princess Surah Animashaun, announced the start of the initiative, describing it as part of a broader environmental safety plan aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

“This intervention is crucial,” she said. “We are taking timely action to ensure that drainage channels are cleared and functioning properly before heavy rains begin. It’s all about protecting our communities.”

Among the areas identified for immediate attention are Popo Oba, Lagbade, and Otun Street, where blocked drainage systems have previously posed significant risks during rainfall.

The council boss emphasized the administration’s commitment to responsive governance, urging residents to play their part by keeping their surroundings clean and refraining from dumping waste into drains.

“This administration is focused on creating a clean, safe, and healthy environment,” she said. “But we need the community’s cooperation to make it work.”

Princess Animashaun also noted that the desilting project aligns with Epe Council’s broader goal of sustainable community development and disaster prevention.
