The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has commenced a comprehensive monitoring exercise to ensure that public and private schools across the state comply with the official resumption date as stipulated in the 2024/2025 Harmonized Academic Calendar.
Leading the monitoring team, OEQA Coordinating Director, Mr. Remi Abdul, visited Ikeja Senior High School, GRA, Ikeja, on Monday, where he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enforcing adherence to academic schedules and maintaining standards in educational institutions across all six education districts.
Abdul stated that the exercise is part of OEQA’s routine oversight function aimed at confirming the operational readiness of schools for both academic and non-academic activities.
“This monitoring helps us ascertain compliance with government directives and also evaluate the preparedness of teachers and learners to commence the new term effectively,” he said.
Beyond confirming attendance, the OEQA team is also assessing school safety protocols and learning environments. Abdul stressed that child safety and protection remain a top priority for the state, adding that the agency is checking facilities, documentation, and statutory academic records to ensure schools meet safety and regulatory requirements.
He reminded school heads and proprietors of the Lagos State Government’s push to enhance holistic learning, referencing initiatives spearheaded by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, including the reintroduction of extracurricular activities aimed at improving learning outcomes.
As part of OEQA’s broader mandate on child safety, Abdul urged all school administrators to encourage their teaching and administrative staff to enroll in the free, mandatory online Safeguarding and Child Protection training, accessible via the OEQA website: www.oeqalagos.com.
OEQA’s Director of Monitoring and Investigation, Mrs. Khafilat Ashimi, explained that the monitoring exercise—running from April 28 to May 6, 2025—will encompass both public and private schools across the six education districts in Lagos State.
Other officials who joined the monitoring team include Mrs. Folusade Sofola, Coordinating Director of Education District VI; Mr. Taofeek Ajibade, Director of Quality Assurance; and Dr. Suleiman Ogunmuyiwa, Director of Private Education and Special Programmes.
The exercise underscores the Lagos State Government’s dedication to enforcing educational standards and ensuring safe, conducive environments for learning.
