In a bold move to strengthen investors’ confidence and accelerate the pace of justice delivery, the Lagos State Government has unveiled its newly constructed Commercial Division of the High Court, strategically located in Tapa, Lagos Island.

EpeInsights reports that the Court is equipped with cutting-edge digital infrastructure, the facility is designed to fast-track hearings and rulings, reducing delays that often stifle economic progress.

Speaking at the official opening, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the court as a “game changer” poised to transform the business landscape by resolving commercial disputes swiftly and efficiently.

“With this new Commercial Court, Lagos is entering a new era of speedy justice delivery,” the governor said. “This is a landmark development for the ease of doing business, one that reinforces our commitment to a responsive judicial system.”

Sanwo-Olu also commended the collaborative efforts of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, for their unwavering dedication to reforming the judiciary.

According to Attorney General Pedro, the new court aligns with the state’s broader economic agenda, positioning the judiciary as a key pillar for growth.

He noted that the court would also handle revenue-related cases, including disputes on taxes, levies, and land use charges — strengthening legal enforcement and boosting state revenue.

“Our legal institutions must evolve alongside our economy, this court is not just a building — it is a commitment to the rule of law and economic advancement.” Pedro said.

Chief Judge Alogba reaffirmed the judiciary’s readiness to utilize the new facility in delivering timely and fair judgments, adding that its operations will set a new standard in the administration of justice.

The unveiling of the Commercial Court marks yet another milestone in Lagos State’s efforts to build an investor-friendly environment where legal and regulatory frameworks support sustainable development.
