In one of the city’s more unusual theft cases, police in Lagos have arrested a man named Austine, who is accused of stealing wigs worth an estimated ₦20 million from a moving truck on the CMS-Marina Bridge.
EpeInsights learnt that the incident occurred on April 25, when Austine and a group of accomplices reportedly targeted a truck transporting a large sack of high-value human hair extensions.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the gang allegedly managed to execute the theft without the driver’s knowledge while the vehicle was in motion.
According to police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, officers received a tip that led them to Marina car park, located just under the bridge.
Austine, attempting to escape arrest, jumped from the bridge into the park below and injured himself during the fall.
“He was found in possession of the stolen items and is currently receiving medical attention under police watch,” Hundeyin said in a statement released Thursday.
Police say a manhunt is now underway for the other suspects involved in the heist.
In the meantime, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, is urging the public to remain alert and report suspicious activity promptly, adding that cooperation with law enforcement is key to maintaining security in the city.
