The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery through technology, as it convened a two-day Progress Review Workshop for the Lagos Primary Health Care (PHC) Digitization Project on May 22, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA.

EpeInsights reports that the workshop, organised by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and supported by the Gates Foundation, brought together health sector stakeholders to assess progress in the ongoing deployment of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) across the state’s PHCs.

So far, 100 facilities have been digitized under the initiative, with plans underway to scale up to all 326 PHCs across Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, represented by Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, described the project as a pivotal step toward smarter, more sustainable healthcare delivery.

“Digitizing our PHCs is about more than innovation it’s about equity, efficiency, and building a health system that truly serves our over 20 million residents,” she said.

Dr. Adeyemi noted that the EMR initiative enhances continuity of care, minimizes duplication, and enables data-driven public health decisions.

“With Electronic Health Records, we can improve diagnosis, monitor patient outcomes, strengthen referral systems, and bolster real-time disease surveillance.

However, these gains must be supported by solid infrastructure and long-term funding models,” she added.

The workshop also served as a platform for stakeholders to share insights, address implementation challenges, and reinforce their shared commitment to the digital transformation of primary healthcare in Lagos.Lagos PHC Board Advances Digital Healthcare Transformation Lagos PHC Board Advances Digital Healthcare Transformation
