The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with officers from the Lagos Police Command, has reported the rescue of two individuals involved in a car accident near Ikota School in the Ajah area of Lagos.
EpeInsights learnt that the incident happened close to Ikota School, heading inward towards Ajah.
This was according to officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Witnesses say the white Ford Jeep (plate number: KWL 574 CY) was moving at an alarming speed before veering off its lane and slamming into the bus (plate number: FST 207 YK), which was packed with passengers.
The impact was brutal as the mini-bus was heavily mangled and its driver reportedly suffered a severe fracture to his right arm and slipped into a coma. Another passenger lost consciousness after profuse nasal bleeding.
Responders from LASTMA acted swiftly—rushing the injured to a nearby hospital while securing the crash site to ease the growing traffic jam. Officers from the Ajiwe Police Division were also on ground to ensure safety and coordinate the emergency response.
“Excessive speed remains a foremost contributor to fatal road incidents,” said LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki. “Motorists must understand that getting to their destination alive is far more important than arriving early.”
Bakare-Oki also expressed hope for the victims’ recovery and restated LASTMA’s commitment to traffic safety awareness across Lagos.
The crash adds to a growing list of road incidents involving reckless driving on Lagos roads. Experts continue to call for stricter speed enforcement, better driver education, and improved road monitoring systems.
While the victims fight for their lives in the hospital, this accident should serve as a wake-up call: speeding kills.
