“These are areas where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed,” said Wahab.

He however noted that sanity was restored in all the areas.

A total of 62 suspects comprising 59 males and three females were apprehended during the sweep. Wahab emphasized that all arrested individuals will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to reclaim public spaces and improve security across Lagos, particularly in commercial and entertainment hubs where disruptive behavior has reportedly escalated in recent weeks.

“This is part of our broader effort to cleanse Lagos of criminal elements and ensure our city remains a secure and vibrant hub for commerce, tourism, and daily life,” Wahab said in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He reiterated that the Lagos State Government has repeatedly warned against the illegal occupation of public spaces by individuals deemed a threat to public safety and vowed that enforcement efforts would continue citywide.

The midnight raid marks a renewed push by state authorities to reinforce law and order in one of Nigeria’s busiest urban centres, sending a clear message that unlawful occupation of public areas will not be tolerated.
