Lagos Begins Free Medical Screening for 2025 Hajj Pilgrims

The Lagos State Government, through the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, has commenced a free medical screening exercise for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

EpeInsights reports that the initiative, aimed at evaluating the health status of pilgrims, is designed to identify potential medical issues and provide necessary treatment before departure to Saudi Arabia.

Addressing pilgrims in Badagry and Ojo Local Government Areas, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode, reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to the health and well-being of Lagosians.

Layode urged the 1,400 intending pilgrims and officials expected to perform the Hajj to be exemplary ambassadors of the state, commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for decentralizing the medical screening to ease access and ensure efficiency.

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulakeem Ajimagbere, emphasized that being medically fit is a key requirement for pilgrimage, encouraging participants to pray for the peace and progress of Lagos and Nigeria.

Also speaking, Dr. Mezeedat Erinosho, Director of Medical, Admin, Training, and Programmes at the Ministry of Health, described the screening as a vital intervention. She said it will promote health-seeking behavior among citizens, ensure pilgrims are vaccinated, and offer them comprehensive care.

Some of the intending pilgrims lauded the state government for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
