The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to appear before it and provide a comprehensive briefing on preparations for the upcoming local government elections slated for July 2025.
EpeInsights learnt that the resolution followed a motion moved by the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and LASIEC, Hon. Rotimi Ajomale, during plenary on Thursday.
Ajomale highlighted the importance of transparency and early engagement, urging LASIEC officials to clarify the election guidelines and assure Lagosians of the commission’s readiness.
Several lawmakers supported the motion, raising concerns about the commission’s silence and the need for proactive communication, especially in response to complaints from opposition parties.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, echoed the concerns, stating that LASIEC must brief the Assembly to uphold public trust and ensure that the electoral process is free, fair, and credible.
The Assembly emphasized the urgency of the matter and expects LASIEC to provide details on logistical plans, voter education, and measures to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
