Officials of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government have intensified revenue sensitization efforts across ram markets within the council area as part of measures aimed at improving compliance and boosting grassroots development.

Epe Insights reports that Revenue and Market Officers of the local government, led by the Supervisor for Revenue, Hon. Ahmed Ajibola Elemoro, carried out the awareness exercise across several designated ram markets in the area.

The sensitization campaign focused on educating traders and livestock sellers on the importance of paying statutory revenues through approved government channels.

Officials explained that internally generated revenue remains a major source of support for infrastructural development, public services, and community projects within the local government.

Despite heavy rainfall during the exercise, the revenue officers continued the tour across various markets to ensure that traders received adequate information on their civic responsibilities.

Hon. Elemoro emphasized that revenue generation plays a critical role in sustaining developmental projects and improving service delivery across Ibeju-Lekki.

He urged market stakeholders and business operators to cooperate fully with government officials by making payments promptly and through authorized collection systems.

According to him, proper revenue remittance directly contributes to road maintenance, environmental sanitation, public infrastructure, and other community-based interventions.

The revenue supervisor also warned against illegal revenue collection and encouraged traders to verify all payment processes through official government representatives.

The sensitization exercise forms part of broader efforts by the administration of Abdullahi Sesan Olowa to strengthen accountability and improve financial management within the local government.

Officials stated that the administration remains committed to ensuring that all government revenues are properly documented and remitted accordingly.

Residents and market leaders who participated in the engagement commended the local government for the awareness initiative and direct interaction with traders.

Some stakeholders described the exercise as necessary for improving understanding of government policies and reducing disputes related to market revenue collection.

Observers noted that effective revenue compliance remains important for sustaining local development projects and expanding access to public services.

The council administration reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and sustainable economic growth through improved revenue generation and proper resource management.

Further sensitization exercises are expected to continue across other markets and commercial centers within Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
