It was a moment of mixed emotions at the State Secretariat in Ikeja as management and staff of the Lagos State Government, State Treasury Office (STO), celebrated and bid farewell to the outgoing Accountant-General of Lagos State, Abiodun Shefiu Muritala.

Dr. Muritala began his career in the Lagos State Civil Service (Local Government) in 1995. His journey was defined by dedication, professionalism and excellence across various roles.
He later rose to become the immediate past Accountant-General of Lagos State and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office. He was sworn into office in November 2019 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
During his tenure, Lagos State strengthened its financial management systems. His administration focused on improving transparency, accountability and efficiency in public financial operations.
Under his leadership, the State Treasury Office enhanced training programmes for government accountants. This move ensured improved capacity building and professional standards within the service.
He also championed the integration of digital financial tools into the state’s accounting framework. The modernisation drive streamlined processes and reinforced prudent fiscal management.
Colleagues described his tenure as transformative and impactful. Many praised his calm leadership style and commitment to institutional growth.
