The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Epe and District Society, has inaugurated a new Executive Committee, with Dr. Adesanya Augustine Adekoya (JP), MBA, Ph.D, FCTI, FCA, sworn in as the sixth Chairman of the district.
Epe Insights reports that the investiture ceremony was held at Jubilee Chalet, Epe, bringing together accounting professionals, traditional rulers, distinguished guests, and members of the institute to witness the inauguration of the new leadership.
Dr. Adekoya currently serves as the Head of Administration and Council Manager of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government. His emergence as Chairman marks the beginning of a new chapter for the ICAN Epe and District Society.
After taking the oath of office, the new Chairman expressed gratitude to God and appreciated members of the institute for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the district.
He thanked members for their unwavering support and confidence in his leadership. He described his election as both an honour and a call to greater service for the accounting profession.
Dr. Adekoya paid glowing tribute to the district’s past chairmen for laying a solid foundation that has sustained the growth of the society over the years.
He specifically acknowledged the contributions of the pioneer Chairman, High Chief Charles O. Keshinro, Pastor Stephen A. Otushemade, Mrs. Helen Deile, Mrs. Olayemi Ajiboye, and the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Maruf Oludare Tijani.
According to him, the former chairmen built the district on the values of integrity, humility, accountability and transparency. He pledged to preserve their legacy while introducing new initiatives that would strengthen the district.
Dr. Adekoya assured members that his administration would build on the achievements of previous executives rather than start afresh. He promised inclusive leadership focused on professionalism and sustainable development.
Presenting his vision, the new Chairman outlined several priority areas that would receive attention during his tenure. He said the administration would consolidate existing programmes while introducing fresh ideas to improve the district.
Among his priorities are the expansion of the Catch Them Young Initiative, strengthening the Educational Endowment Fund, increasing contributions to the Building Endowment Fund, and promoting continuous professional training.
He also promised to improve membership welfare, enhance professional development opportunities, expand the district’s social responsibility initiatives, and strengthen the operations of the district secretariat.
Dr. Adekoya further pledged to organise impactful programmes that would promote professional excellence and increase the visibility of ICAN within Epe Division and beyond.
He expressed optimism that with the support of members, sponsors and stakeholders, the district would attain greater heights in innovation, excellence and service delivery.
The event attracted several prominent personalities, including the Grand Patron of the district, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba Dr. Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), and the Oloni of Oni Kingdom, Ogun State, HRM Oba Abidakun Olalekan Obikoya.
Their presence reflected the strong relationship between the accounting profession and traditional institutions committed to community development and ethical leadership.
The immediate past Chairman, Mr. Maruf Oludare Tijani, used the occasion to highlight the achievements recorded during his administration.
He disclosed that his leadership secured a befitting district secretariat, launched the official ICAN Epe and District Society website, and employed dedicated secretariat personnel to improve administrative efficiency.
He also listed the installation of a solar inverter system at the secretariat, increased participation of members at the Annual Accountants’ Conference, and the establishment of a Building Fund as major milestones.
According to Tijani, the Building Fund is expected to facilitate the construction of a permanent district secretariat that will serve members for generations.
Despite these achievements, he identified inadequate funding as the biggest challenge faced by his administration.
He appealed to corporate organisations, philanthropists, professional colleagues and other stakeholders to support the new executive financially to enable it achieve its vision.
Members at the ceremony expressed confidence in Dr. Adekoya’s leadership, describing him as an experienced public administrator, accomplished accountant, auditor, tax administrator, data analyst and lecturer with the capacity to move the district forward.
The inauguration of the new executive signals a renewed commitment to professional excellence, ethical leadership and institutional growth within ICAN Epe and District Society.
With a clear development agenda and the backing of members, Dr. Adekoya is expected to consolidate past achievements while positioning the district as one of the leading ICAN branches in Nigeria.
