A cyclist tragically lost his life earlier today following a collision with a moving truck near Alausa Bus Stop, along Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lagos.

EpeInsights gathered that the incident occurred as the cyclist attempted a turn from Kudirat Abiola Way towards the ‘Radio’ axis of Obafemi Awolowo Way.

While navigating the maneuver, he collided with a heavily loaded truck (registration number BDG 610 YA), lost control, and hit his head on the pavement.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement confirmed that the impact resulted in instant death.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the cyclist was using an earpiece and appeared to be on a phone call at the time, which may have contributed to the accident due to loss of focus on the road.

LASTMA operatives responded quickly, securing the area and managing traffic flow to prevent further disruptions.

Officers from the Alausa Police Division were also on-site and took over the situation, transporting the body to the General Hospital mortuary in Ikeja.

Expressing deep condolences, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki called for heightened caution among cyclists and non-motorized road users.

He stressed the importance of wearing proper safety gear, avoiding distractions, and never challenging right-of-way with motorized vehicles.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time. We urge cyclists to stay alert, use protective gear, and make safety their top priority while sharing the road,” Bakare-Oki said.
