The renowned Kayo-Kayo Festival in Epe Kingdom is poised for a new era of growth and international recognition following the formal inauguration of its Advisory Board on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
EpeInsights report that the ceremony was presided over by His Royal Majesty, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom.
During the event, which was also attended by prominent leaders of the community, the monarch, represented by the Balogun of the Kingdom, High Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro, praised past coordinators, committee members, and donors for their ongoing contributions to the festival’s success.
He acknowledged their pivotal role in cementing the festival’s place as a cultural hallmark within the region.
Oba Adewale remarked, “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Kayo-Kayo Festival. With the distinguished individuals now on the Advisory Board, I am confident that we will achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead. I hereby declare this Board officially inaugurated, and I eagerly anticipate the progress we will make together.”
The newly formed Advisory Board is chaired by Alhaji (Chief) Alade Saliu Okulu, a former Coordinator of the festival.
In his speech, Okulu expressed his gratitude and recalled his long-standing relationship with the festival, which began when he became a member in 1991.
Reflecting on his journey, he said, “I am deeply honored to take on this new responsibility.
Having seen the festival’s evolution over the years, I commend the dedication of all those who’ve served in leadership positions. As we step into this next phase, I offer my experience and guidance to ensure that we preserve and elevate the cultural significance of this festival.”
Barrister Adedayo Okulu, the current Coordinator of the Kayo-Kayo Festival, shared that the establishment of the Advisory Board is a strategic move to enhance the professionalism and structure of the festival’s organization.
“We recognized the importance of tapping into the wealth of experience our elders and past leaders bring to the table,” he explained.
“By formalizing this structure, we believe we can deepen their impact and bring about more sustained success for the festival.”
Publicity Chairman, Engineer Olalekan Gbajumo, also shared plans to propel the festival onto the global stage. “Our goal is to make the Kayo-Kayo Festival a global brand,” he announced.
“This year, we will leverage social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world. Through innovative digital campaigns, we aim to capture both local and international attention and make Epe Kingdom a cultural hub recognized worldwide.”
