In a bold show of unity and environmental resolve, the five local governments in the Epe Division of Lagos State; Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Eredo, Ikosi-Ejinrin and Lekki gathered in Ibeju-Lekki to mark World Environment Day 2025 under the theme: “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
EpeInsights reports that the event, hosted this year by Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, builds on the momentum from 2024’s celebration in Epe LGA, showcasing a growing regional collaboration to combat one of the most pressing environmental threats of our time.
Welcoming his counterparts, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki, set the tone for the day with a rallying call for intensified grassroots campaigns and responsible waste practices, noting that the journey to environmental sustainability begins at the local level.
Epe Local Government, led by its Environmental Sanitation Department, was represented by Hon. Odupe Fuad Tunde, Supervisor for Environment, who reaffirmed Epe’s dedication to the fight against plastic pollution.
“Plastic waste threatens not only our environment but also public health, livelihoods, and marine life. Epe is committed to cleaner waterways, sustainable practices and public education,” said Hon. Odupe.
One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of Cleanliness Awards to top-performing Community Development Associations (CDAs).
Epe’s own Adekunle Raheem Street proudly clinched third place, with the award presented by Hon. Tosin Osinnuga, Secretary to Lekki LCDA.
Second place went to Divine Estate, Bogije, while Michael Otedola Housing Estate, Odo-Iragushi (Eredo) took home the top honour.
The gathering also spotlighted student performances, expert talks, and inter-LGA solidarity in promoting Lagos State’s zero waste policy.
The event proved a powerful example of how local governments can lead climate and environmental action from the ground up.
