The ongoing dual-drainage project along Shapati Road in Ibeju-Lekki is making progress, with one side of the concrete drainage channel completed and excavation continuing on the opposite side.

Epe Insights reports that the project was inspected by the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government leadership as part of efforts to monitor infrastructure development and ensure that ongoing works address the needs of residents and businesses.

During the inspection, attention was drawn to the progress made on the first drainage channel, while work continued on the second line. When completed, the project is expected to improve stormwater management and help reduce flooding risks along the road.

The drainage project forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots infrastructure and improve environmental conditions across Ibeju-Lekki.

The council leadership linked the project to the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that resources are being channelled into critical infrastructure to deliver tangible benefits to communities.

According to the leadership, investments in drainage infrastructure are essential for protecting roads, improving movement and supporting businesses, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The project is also expected to contribute to a cleaner and safer environment by providing a more effective channel for stormwater to flow away from the road and surrounding areas.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to delivering practical projects under its SHIEELD Agenda, with a focus on infrastructure and other interventions designed to meet the needs of local communities.

It maintained that development should go beyond policy statements and produce visible improvements that residents can experience in their daily lives.

The Shapati drainage project represents one of the infrastructure efforts aimed at addressing local environmental challenges and improving the condition of public roads in Ibeju-Lekki.

The administration said it would continue to prioritise projects that improve residents’ welfare, support local economic activities and promote sustainable community development.

As work progresses on the second drainage line, residents will be looking forward to the completion of the project and its expected benefits, particularly in managing runoff and reducing the impact of flooding.
